Do You Struggle To Create Lasting Change? This Is For You.

Why It’s Time To Take A Closer, More Intentional Approach to Making Impact

This final blog of 2020 has me in a reflective mood. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I hope you enjoy time with your family. Take the time to celebrate, reminisce about the past year and dream about 2021.

We’ll feel the impact created by the events of this year for a while. Many events, both positive and negative, affected the way we work, play, and live.

While it’s easy to focus on how you’ve been affected, I challenge you to stay focused on the impact YOU can have on others. You can leave a deep impression on many people with your personal or business mastermind. I truly believe that. I want you to believe it, too.

Have you ever envisioned the impact you want to make in the lives of others? I’m not talking about “wouldn’t it be nice” daydreams. That kind of thinking is just wishing on a star, about what your mastermind group could be. I’m talking about getting a crystal-clear vision of the change you will bring forth with what you already have.

As a leader, you have a special role and responsibility. People don’t come to your group just to shoot the breeze. They’re hungry for growth. Your members want to be, do, and see more. So let me ask - do you lead them with a vision that boldly proclaims the future?

Some leaders believe impact happens naturally, on its own. That’s true in one sense, but I’ve noticed something in four decades as an entrepreneur: futures with actionable visions allow more dreams to come true than those without.

“Impact” happens all over the place. Most people think of it in terms of financial giving. But there’s more than one way to skin this cat. Try to picture how impactful your team will be, or what you’ll do in your free time. Will your mastermind business give you the freedom you want?

In the online mastermind groups I lead, we just finished reading “The Vision Driven Leader” by Michael Hyatt. This book shows how to create a clear, inspiring vision for key parts of your business:

  • Products
  • Team
  • Sales & Marketing
  • Impact

The Mastermind Playbook also helps you to know where you’re going. Are you lost in the woods when it comes to creating or scaling your mastermind? Take a look at one of the most effective maps ever created!

Why Impact Needs a “Seat at the Table”

We love visionaries, don’t we? I think of people like Steve Jobs and Henry Ford. They had a special ability to see and create things people would want, before we knew we wanted them. When their peers were creating great products for today, they were busy making amazing tools that would change the world tomorrow.

Wouldn’t you like to do something like that? Could the way you operate groups create an impact that outlives you? I say yes. But a lot of mastermind leaders hesitate with creating vision.

This isn’t the time to run and hide. It’s the time to dive in! What happens years from now is largely dependent on what we do and how we think today. Maybe you say, “What’s the worst that can happen if I don’t put time and energy into the vision of my impact now?”

Well, you’ll get results from that too - and they’ll be on par with the time and energy you’re unwilling to use. As a leader sows, so shall they reap.

Is that something you want to go through? Is that something you want those under your leadership to experience? You have the choice to step into something incredible, and take others with you. How can you let them down and rob the world of amazing results?

How to Make Your Impact More … Impactful

I mentioned earlier - our mastermind group members read “The Vision Driven Leader.” It was so good that I wanted to share some of the guidance here with you. Here’s a list of questions from the book. Ask yourself when contemplating your “impact vision”:

  • What are your results – by whatever metrics are most meaningful to you and your team? For instance, what’s your revenue, profit, staff count, or the size of your mailing list?

  • What financial thresholds excite you as a leader?

  • What are you, as the leader, free to do with your time and role?

  • How do you hope that growth in your organization will impact you and your team?

  • How do your industry peers and competitors think of you?

Go ahead, think long and hard on these questions. Define and refine your answers. As you do, you’ll start to see your impact become realistic - even if it’s challenging! That’s when the real fun starts, and it doesn’t have to end there. For even more fun and value, check out The Mastermind Playbook!
