Imagination is one of God’s greatest gifts. With it, we can dream up whatever we want. I truly believe we have far fewer limits than we think, and it starts with our imagination.
We’ve been talking recently about creating vision for your mastermind group. Think of how you want things to be. Don’t get limited by what you currently see or feel.
If generations who came before us worked hard only on what they could see, we wouldn’t have any of the amazing things we have today. No radio, TV, airplanes, satellites ... you wouldn’t be able to read this blog on your computer connected to the internet!
In his book, “The Vision Driven Leader,” author Michael Hyatt teaches about the concept of a “vision script.” It’s a way to spell out something that doesn’t exist yet, in an inspiring, clear and practical way.
Vision scripts force you to focus on the “what,” not the “how.” Don’t get bogged down with how you’ll make these changes to your business mastermind. Instead, look to the future with excitement. Create your ideal life as a mentor-coach on paper, to spur you to action each morning!
There’s plenty that can hold you back, as the leader of an online mastermind group. Discover some of the biggest pitfalls and obstacles, as well as how to avoid them, by looking at the Mastermind Playbook.
Obstacles to Imagination
Fear limits vision. Many people are fearful of what might happen, if all of their dreams come true. They “say” they want the riches and impact that come with running a high-level mastermind group online. But when it comes to doing the work involved, they lose their courage.
Fear kills more dreams than failure ever will. So many people give up, before they even get started, due to fear. Creating a vision script is the first step to achieving dreams. Push through the fear and claim what is yours!
Poor Expectations eat up so many dreams, I need to break it down into different parts. You’ll see these below. I feel most people hold back because they don’t believe in themselves, and they don’t trust others. Are you suffering from poor expectations in any of these areas?
This one runs deep. Many people grow up thinking greatness just isn’t for them. They’re told that others may achieve success, but that it won’t happen for people like them. That can be a tough wound to heal. Our “filters” of the world determine our expectations, which determine our level of success.
Many don’t believe they can do what’s necessary to live out their vision. That’s a sad reality. As a Christian life coach, I long to see a world full of vibrant, confident people. People filled with positive feelings about who they are and what they can accomplish.
“People are always looking out for what’s best for them.” “You need to be skeptical of others.” “People only care about themselves.” How many of these false statements have you heard? In my experience, everybody’s heard some version of them. It’s bad business, assuming others can’t be trusted.
Anyone who’s achieved massive success can tell you, nobody does it alone. So why do some people tell us that others can’t be trusted? They have a handful of bad interactions, and then they write off everyone else as equally “bad.”
Sure, there are bad people out there. But these people are exceptions to the rule. The more interactions you have, the more good people you’ll find. The large majority of people do want to see others win. Don’t let one or two experiences tell you that your fellow man can’t be trusted.
Lack of time, space and energy to imagine is another roadblock. There’s no margin, to dream and imagine what your online mastermind groups can look like. We’re expected to work, work, work. We’re never taught the value of taking time to think about the future. Focused on the “now,” we don’t have the option to think about the future.
We need to spend time away from the everyday hustle and bustle. Do you ever “get away” from the day-to-day and think about what you want? If not, you should. Creating a vision is difficult when you’re trying to answer emails and questions from your team.

How to Limit Limitations
As kids, we take the world as it comes. This means that negative beliefs we learn as we grow up become “embedded.” We believe in them the same way we believe the sky’s blue.
The good news is we can work to create a new story, by writing down all the things we want. What characteristics do you wish to have? How much money do you want to earn? Use affirmations, prayer, and journaling to create a new image of yourself. Start small, and collect quick wins.
Trusting others is important for leading mastermind groups online. Aim to create positive relationships, built on cooperation and communication. These relationships will present opportunities to grow your trust in other people. If you want to have faith in them, you also need to be trustworthy. Practice keeping your word and coming through for others.
Microsoft founder Bill Gates often schedules a week, completely to himself. He calls them “think weeks.” They give him space, where he can let his mind flow freely. If one of the most prolific business leaders of our time does this, imagine what it could do for you and your mastermind group!
You’ll need to rely on yourself and others to create the group you dream about. If you need a framework to help you flesh this out, I encourage you to check out the Mastermind Playbook!
